Ch. Woodwind's Avant Garde "Topper" (Ch. Woodwind Puttin' on the Ritz X Woodwind's Serenade)
(Deceased)
Topper was my first champion and was a multiple BOB winner, including a 5-point major (pictured) at Agathon KC (Specialty weekend) and a BOB win from the classes over a special to finish his championship at Bucks County KC.
His favorite pastime was jumping to the top of the six foot cyclone fence, just because he could. He never went over it, just up to the top to look over. Maybe it was to prove that IGs are NOT fragile little things.
Ch. Woodwind's Abba Scibba Parke "Abby" (Ch. Regio Marco Antonio Fair X Ch. Karma's Woodwind Magic)
(Deceased)
Abby was owned and bred by my sister and was the dam of three champions, including "Kimi". She was, in her time, a multiple Best of Breed winner and a lovely show dog who loved to catch popcorn tossed to her in the ring. She is pictured above showing in the Veteran's class at the 1990 National Specialty in Ravenna, Ohio.
Ch. Woodwind's Iron Maiden "Kimi" (Ch. Bilair's Hard Steel N' Sex Apeal X Ch. Woodwind's Abba Scibba Parke)
(Deceased)
Kimi was my foundation bitch and was a granddaughter of the great Ch. Laviere Wings of Night, T.T.. She was linebred on the old Regio line. Her strong points included excellent outline, excellent headpiece and ears, excellent tailset and length, good length of neck and hindquarters, correct croup angle and width, correct straight front, correctly sloped pasterns, true rear, absolutely sound moving coming and going, and excellent "hare" feet.
Her show record includes multiple BOBs, as well as such highlights as being the last IG bitch to finish her championship at the Westminster KC show in Madison Square Garden (by winning BOS over the Specials bitches for her last major) and also includes her winning BOS at the Western Reserve KC show over a total bitch entry of 45 the same weekend as the IGCA National Specialty in Ravenna, Ohio.
Yes, her call name *does* come from Anne McCaffrey's Pern books. Specifically, she was named after Sebell's fire lizard queen.
Kimi was CERF certified clear at 10 years old and was OFA patella certified at 12 and a half.
She passed away in her sleep at the wonderful age of 16 and a half!
Woodwind's Whitesnake "Cooper" (Ch. Woodwind's Sweetfire N'Jazz X Ch. Dei Carini Diva O' Woodwind)
(Deceased)
Cooper was the rare color known as "isabella" which is genetically a dilute chocolate and has brown pigmented nose and eye rims.
His strong points included a strong, correct topline, great depth of chest, excellent headpiece, excellent ears, excellent length of neck, correct shoulder layback, and excellent "lift" on side movement. Cooper is an excellent example of a "stallion" type dog, very masculine without losing refinement.
He was shown lightly and had 5 points towards his championship, including two BOBs.
Ch. Woodwind's Iron Butterfly "Sarah" (Woodwind's Whitesnake X Ch. Woodwind's Iron Maiden)
(Deceased)
Sarah was a blue and white irish marked IG who excelled in side movement with strong reach and drive, balanced angulation, ears, eye color, tailset and a sound, true front.
Sarah was also a multiple BOB winner, having been acknowleded by such noted judges as Frank Sabella and Isabelle Stoffers (Runners Whippets).
Ch. Woodwind's Madam Butterfly "Poppy" (Ch. Lenlo's Blue shadow D'Oxdal X Ch. Woodwind's Iron Butterfly)
Poppy is a blue bitch who carries an older (but still correct) style headpiece. She is linebred on Ch. Regio Marco Antonio Fair, one of the breeds Top Producers. She excells in depth of chest, short loin, correct size, croup drop-off, tailset, balanced angulation, ears, and sweet, willing temperament.
Poppy completed the requirements for her CHAMPIONSHIP at the Sand & Sea Kennel Club on August 10, 1997. Hurray for Poppy!!! She's a fourth generation Woodwind champion and we're very proud. She finished her championship under the same judge who gave her her first points, Mr. Raymond Swiderski. In between, she was pointed by some noted all-rounders, such as Mrs. Kathleen B Kolbert, Kenneth M. McDermott, and Lydia Hutchinson.
Woodwind's Comanche Brave "Rocky" (Woodwind's NightHawk X Ch. Woodwind's Iron Maiden)
(Deceased)
Rocky was one of the original "hounds from h*ll" litter who almost literally tore my house apart with their wild and wooley ways. Non-stop energy described this entire litter.
He excelled in a long, curvey outline, length of neck, wonderful headpiece, almost black eye color, excellent ear shape and set, well set under front, sound front and rear, correct croup and tailset, lovely long rear, excellent hare feet, long, reachy movement, and loving temperament. We're pleased to see that he seems to have passed most of these things on to his offspring.
Check out his daughter "Raven" below, as well as our extended family page for some of Rocky's kids!
Rocky was also shown lightly while here with me and had 5 points.
Woodwind's Smoke Signal "Raven" (Woodwind's Comanche Brave X Ch. Bilair's Clover Honey)
Raven was bred by Tod Krout and is a true delight to own. Her favorite nick name is "Pretty Bird" and if she's feeling tense about a situation all that's needed is to ask for 'bird kisses'. Then she's all silly and wiggley and happy again. Yet she'll stand shoulder to shoulder with her grandmother, Kimi, to sound the alert when something is amiss (at least, in *their* opinion) Yes, she did inherit her sire's flair for "activity" and has been an incorrigible trash digger.
Raven's strong points are her overall outline and long, free-flowing stride. She has an exellent head with very dark eyes and excellent ear set, a long neck that flows smoothly into her shoulders and a long, smooth, sloped croup with a correctly low-set tail. Her front is nicely set-under and her long, angulated rear gives her excellent drive. No crouched, mince-y, prissy movement here. Raven is a hound with a captial "H".
Shown only when the whim hit me, Raven was awarded match Group 1's at Bryn Mawr KC (7/11/98) and Bucks county KC (7/18/98), Winners bitch for her first point at the Perkiomen Valley KC show in Kulpsville, PA on July 31,1998 and was Reserve Winners at the prestigious Kennel Club of Philadelphia's benched show on November 20, 1999. Raven has been retired from the show ring and presently claims the *entire* couch as her rightful place in the household.
Raven is now co-owned with Andrea (Crabtree) Wagner, Fyrefly IGs, in Houston, Texas and has produced (sired by Ch. Lykan's Frozen In Time) the two lovely girls pictured below:

Woodwind's Iron Angel "Jill" (Ch. Bevsoni's Giacomo D'Vinsan X Ch. Woodwind's Iron Maiden)
(Deceased)
Jill was the quintessential embassador for the breed. She was small and delicate in appearance and lived for soft laps to sit on and faces to kiss. There were no strangers in Jill's world, only friends she hadn't met yet, and those were welcomed with open arms once the proper introductions had been made. She could be rowdy with a respectful child or content with a quiet snuggle with someone who needed a little TLC. No dog ever had a bigger heart, fully and freely offered. We miss you, Jilly-Bean.
Jill's physical strong points were her small size, compact outline, excellent soft, silky coat, balanced movement from the side and true movement coming and going. She had a long neck, a lovely topline, good, strong hare feet, and excellent smooth, sloped croup.
Jill was shown a bit and had 3 points towards her championship.
Woodwind's Iron Eagle "Elliot" (Ch. Lenlo's Blue Shadow D'Oxdal X Ch. Woodwind's Iron Maiden)
(Deceased)
Elliot was our major love bug, always cuddling up close and giving tiny "kisses".
He excelled in head planes, length and chiseling, correct ears, excellent outline with correct topline and good depth of chest, strong, set under front, long, sweeping rear and excellent tailset. Like Cooper, he was very much a "stallion-type" dog.
Elliot was shown a bit but was retired due to his antipathy to the show ring.
