The Hounds Of Woodwind

The Hounds of Woodwind

Kimi & Cooper Dirk Puppy Ian Faces

Woodwind started its life as a hobby breeding kennel of Afghan Hounds. Over the years, with the impetus of two small sons, the focus changed to Italian Greyhounds because they *didn't* need several hours of coat care each and every week to keep them healthy and in good condition. Now that my sons are grown, I find I no longer have the drive to continue breeding IGs and am presently simply enjoying my time with Ian, Duncan and new puppy, Brie, at the shows and occasionally on the racing & coursing fields.

For those who are interested in gathering information about dogs in the pedigrees of their own Italian Greyhounds, I've included some descriptions of the IGs that have lived here at Woodwind and the direction I was trying to take in my breeding program.

I have always believed in taking note of the "hound" part of Italian Greyhound, and consequently, most of my dogs were a bit larger and longer in body than what is winning in today's showring. Curves were longer and smoother and more esthetically pleasing. Front legs reached out and hind legs pushed off well. No bunched-up, cobby bodies, with rumps tucked under at Woodwind.

The ideals that I aimed for in the Woodwind IGs were:

Come and visit with my delightful charges, some past, some present, and most importantly, those who share their lives with other families.

Since I don't see the sense in rewriting information that has already been done well, I've included some links at the end to both IG information and some general information on dogs.

If you are interested in acquiring an Italian Greyhound, don't forget to check out the Parent Club's Rescue Pages. Rescued IGs make wonderful pets!!! (Imagine, no "teething" stage or puppies that have to piddle in the middle of the night....what a wonderful concept!)
